We are on a break!
Label co-director Kellie Alderman shares why the label is taking a hiatus.
I can’t hear these words without hearing them in the voice of David Schwimmer’s Ross from Friends. His “We were on a break” line that carried through a good part of his relationship with Jennifer Anniston’s Rachael. Him not full taking responsibility for his actions and her holding him to account in a way that he was not willing to live up to.
Well, we want to be accountable to you, the lovely women who have supported us in our Hunt + Kelly experiment since our first tentative launch into the world of e-tailing back in 2016.
We have decided to put a pause on our label for the time being. There’s many reasons but the main ones are quite personal and a little bit sad and while this is not the forum for tales of woe, briefly, my dear Mum passed away late last year. I’m an only child and was very close to my Mum and it has really knocked the wind out of my sails. My marriage also came to an end around the same time with a bit of an unexpected twist.
So, for me, a mental health break is needed to re-group and work out what’s next. I’m calling it my mid-life gap year. I’m sure many of you can relate to the need to do this, with kids getting older and needing me less, I’m finding out who I really am again, without the labels of mother, wife, daughter, business owner – just me. It’s scary on many levels - emotionally, financially but also quite freeing. I’ll let you know this time next year how it went!
The amazing Paul (the Hunt in Hunt + Kelly) is super busy with his “day job” being an incredible couturier who makes Brisbane’s best wedding and special occasion dresses. He has also been working in interior design, creating some beautiful home projects that he is really excited about. So, if you are looking for a home update or have a special occasion on the horizon and want to see more, head to his website: www.paulhunt.com.
Together we have had a blast working on Hunt + Kelly and the biggest thrill of all is that our philosophy of all ages, all sizes, all budgets is something that has really resonated with so many people. We feel honored that you have picked our clothes to take you through your day or to a special event and just loved hearing your positive feedback on the pieces we created. Making you feel special made us feel special.
A huge thanks to every single person who has bought something from us and to all the gorgeous influencers who helped us spread our message, we couldn’t have done it without you!
We would like to come back sometime soon with a new concept. We are both very interested in the area of sustainability and as always, making women of all ages, sizes and budgets feel and look amazing.
In the meantime, we hope you snap up some bargains in our massive studio clearance in Brisbane on May 25 from 8am-4pm, 777 Stanley St, Woolloongabba (parking in Coles in Gibbon St), and online from Sunday May 24.
There’s nothing over $35 and this is your very last chance to snap up a piece of original Hunt + Kelly before we take our break.
We will keep our social channels open for now, to let you know what we have coming up next and for anyone interested in seeing some of Paul’s amazing work and what my gap year looks like!
A huge and heartfelt thank you and bye for now xx
